Creepy Crawler Cake with Hellmann's®
or Best Foods® Real Mayonnaise

i remember creepy crawlers.
i wish i had my old creepy crawler kit--i'd bake up a batch before bed tonite if i did.
today, i got my monthly e-news letter from Best Foods. Their recipe for creepy crawlers is way more complicated and time consuming from what i remember:
1 box (18 oz.) chocolate cake mix
1 cup Hellmann's ® or Best Foods ® Real Mayonnaise
1 cup water
3 eggs
8 pieces thick black licorice twists
3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (4 oz.), melted
1/2 cup chocolate sprinkles
1 can (16 oz.) dark chocolate frosting
Creepy Crawler Garnishes*
- Preheat oven to 350°. Grease and lightly flour 2 (1-1/2-qt.) ovenproof glass bowls; set aside.
- In large bowl, with electric mixer on low speed, beat cake mix, Hellmann's ® or Best Foods ® Real Mayonnaise, water, and eggs 30 seconds. Beat on medium speed, scraping sides occasionally, 2 minutes. Pour into prepared bowls.
- Bake 50 minutes or until toothpick inserted in centers comes out clean. On wire rack, cool 10 minutes; remove from bowls and cool completely.
- Meanwhile, dip licorice into melted chocolate. Shake off excess chocolate, then dip into sprinkles. Place on waxed paper and chill 15 minutes or until firm.
- Trim flat sides of cakes to make even. On serving platter, arrange 1 cake, flat side up. Spread with 1/2 cup frosting. Top with remaining cake, flat side down. Frost with remaining frosting.
- Insert licorice into cake, bending to form legs.
*For Creepy Crawler Garnishes, use 2 chocolate sandwich cookies cut in half for eyes, and 2 red mini candy-covered chocolates for pupils. Shape red fruit leather to form a mouth and use 2 candy corns as teeth.
definitely a recipe cooked up by some martha stewart whannabe.
