don't let shit ruin your summer beach vacation!

swimming Warning posted at VA beach.

for the first time since 1970s, signs have been posted telling people to stay out of the water at virginia beach.

there's a similar swimming advisory at two small beaches in newport news.

the warnings came thursday after water samples showed high levels of bacteria.

the bacteria level could increase the risk for people to develop a gastrointestinal illness, says Skip Scanlon, environmental health manager for the public health department.

the one-mile stretch in virginia beach goes from 45th to 63rd streets. the city didn't officially close the beach, but it discouraged swimming until further notice.

huh. signs are also posted at hilton beach and king-lincoln park in newport news, as well.

newport news beaches had had bacteria problems before, but this is the first time that virginia beach had to post an advisory at an atlantic beach since it started monitoring in the mid-1970s.

health officials have taken additional water samples from the beaches, and said they might remove the advisories today if bacteria drop to within safe levels.

safe levels?

health officials attributed the problem to recent heavy rains...

...heavy rains?

...and the bush administration's latest proposal to routinely allow partially treated sewage into America's waterways.

basically, the policy that bush proposes uses economic incentives to enforce water quality regulations. it would allow industrial, agricultural and wastewater treatment plants to meet their regulatory obligations by purchasing offsetting credits from facilities in the same watershed that have exceeded their mandated water quality standards or from non-regulated farms that have helped clean up water.

ain't this some shit?

it's the most moronic initiative i ever heard.
