Who is the Client

As one plans to intervene in an institution or organization, one of the key first steps is to identify the exact client that will sponsor the intervention and system change initiative. On the surface, it may be obvious who the chief client would be. However, time needs to be taken to determine the client system (s) that exists so that the internal or external consultant can create the proper intervention and role clarification in the change process. The client is never just a single individual. There is a client system which impacts the organization.
